How do they work?

Effect and use

The sleep glasses are intended for the prevention and relief of sleep disorders. They are also used to correct disturbed sleep patterns, for example in relation to shift work and jet lag.

The use of sleep glasses stimulates the secretion of the signal substance melatonin, a neurotransmitter from the pineal gland in the brain, which promotes sleep, sleep quality and other physiological processes. With the help of sleep glasses, you can regulate, when the production of melatonin should start and thus control your circadian rhythm.


The blue light

Sleep glasses work by filtering out the blue light in the light spectrum (446-477 nanometers). The sleep glasses from MelaMedic remove 100% of the blue light and a little of the green light up to 530 nanometers. The absence of blue light is detected by special photoreceptors in the retina of the eye, which pass this information on to the brain's internal clock. The internal clock processes this information and sends a signal to the pineal gland to produce melatonin.

If you wear sleep glasses, the body thinks it is night-time and the production of melatonin starts. If, on the other hand, you are exposed to the blue light in the light spectrum, the production of melatonin stops and you will have difficulty falling asleep. The blue light is also the most important component of light therapy.

Activities

You can easily watch TV, read, work at your computer and participate in most of your usual evening activities while wearing your sleep glasses.

If you wake up at night to go to the toilet or breastfeed your baby and you need light, it is extremely important that you wear sleep glasses, to avoid the blue light. Otherwise, you risk resetting your circadian rhythm and have difficulty falling asleep again.


Adaptation time and regularity

It can take up to a week to get used to your new sleep glasses and achieve the desired effect. This is because you are in the process of resetting your body's internal clock. In some cases, the adaptation time can last up to 30 days, and then it is a matter of being patient and following the instructions carefully.

It is important to put on the sleep glasses at the same time every night to maintain the same setting of your internal clock.

If you follow the instructions, you will - like the vast majority of our clients - experience a positive effect on your sleeping pattern within just 3-4 days.


Example

If, for example, you use the sleep glasses regularly every evening from 9 p.m., then the melatonin cycle typically stops the next morning at 7 a.m. If you wake up too early and feel fresh and rested, then you can try using the sleep glasses from 10 p.m. instead.

There are a few people whose bodies produce no melatonin or only a little . For these people, the effect of using sleep glasses may be limited.
